Live image from different cameras can be used. LUCIA system controls the camera and stores images to the disc. Live scene from the camera is displayed on a monitor. Digital photo cameras can be also used, captured images from a digital photo camera can  be  opened in  LUCIA. Existing images can be enhanced, annotated, printed or  organized to user designed databases.

Two images can be loaded to the actual and reference picture and compared. It is possible to choose from several comparison modes  such  as: overlayed (e.g. used in documents and signatures analyses), vertical, horizontal (ballistics, toolmarks), chopper, red-green, and  binary masked.   If the compared objects do  not have the same size (captured under different magnification), it is possible to stretch the images to the same size. Special comparison  techniques can be used as demonstrated on the picture 5, where several bullet pictures from the same gun were subsequently opened and compared.

The system can be size-calibrated for  different magnifications. The real size of a one pixel is defined during the calibration process. The calibration can be also done on an individual picture, where the scale is present. It is  possible to interactively measure real sizes and angles on a calibrated image. The measured results can be inserted as annotations  to  the image. It is also possible to generate the electonical rulers.
